On the banks of the Po river, the attractions of GUALTIERI, fiefdom of the Bentivoglio family, are its square, among the most beautiful in Italy, and the gigantic palace, of which only a quarter of the original remains.

The huge Hall of Giants inside is frescoed with scenes of Jerusalem Delivered. The palace also houses a museum dedicated to the painter Antonio Ligabue and some theatrical costumes by Umberto Tirelli.

Gualtieri, built on an ideal plan in the shape of a cross, flourished as an urban centre between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
